The first truck was distributed last Saturday. The second truck is scheduled to come on Saturday, Nov. 12. Currenlty we are not planning an order in the spring of next year.
We will open the web site for new orders tonight at about 9:00pm. Due to the large amount of orders in August, the order for the second truck is already near full (~700 bags). Please note, the truck can only carry 800 bags, so it you ordered after 800 bags, you will be put on the waiting list, and we will call or email you on pickup day if someone gives up or does not come and pick up.
Last Saturday's distribution went smoothly, with just a few minor issues. One lady who is on waiting list came from Katy for pickup in the morning. Two other people whom we agreed to be put on second truck showed up due to confusion on both ends. We feel really sorry for them. Even though we know there will be people giving up bags based on past statistics (there were 40 bags given up this time), we could not give other's bags without getting definite answers from them first -- nobody on assigned list wants to come for pickup and only to see his/her bags are given to someone else.
Finally, even though we emphasized, there were still a few people not willing to take broken bags. This is a collective effort, we need everyone's help to make it work. Honestly, after so many years, all the people involved are very tired, physically but mainly mentally. It is a lot of efforts to distribute the products. For example, on Saturday I started shortly after 7am directing the truck driver, and finally finished at 9pm. That's just delivery day alone. There are a lot coordination work for the ordering process and before/after the delivery. For our own needs, we can always order just one truck per year and distribute among friends. A small percentage yet sizable people's unfriendly behaviours hurt us to the point that we sometimes are thinking of scaling back our efforts. We are keeping this effort to serve more people because most of our fellow gardeners appreciate our efforts.
